What do you like/dislike about the Infiniti QX50?

To start, i love how sporty it is, much like a sports sedan in some ways. Dislike how tight it is in the back seat, also poor cargo space.

I would be nice to have power folding seats because i always find it difficult to figure out how to fold down the seats properly in vehicles. It is less cargo space than i was expecting, but it should be enough space for most stuff i need to do. There just might not be much room to spare in those cases when you do have a lot of stuff.

I've never heard of the power folding seats before though. Is this a new thing, or am I just out of the loop?

I'm interested in this vehicle because it isn't quite as big as Infiniti's biggest SUVs. Not too big, not too small, just right. Besides that I just like the look of Infiniti cars. Infiniti is a luxury brand on the rise, and I would be happy to jump on board.

Plus, the array of options that I will get to choose from will make me like a kid in an (expensive) candy shop.

True but to have all of their lines come out with a refresh is hard. they have way too many vehicles. If it were only a couple there would be a good arguement. I agree with you though. This rebadge thing is rediculous they should have just waited till the new refresh and then implement the new names.

The new names make more sense, but it is always a confusing move for consumers to rename your products. It doesn't make it any more easy to differentiate between models when they all are named with letter/number combinations instead of actual names.

I think Infiniti is planning on doing some updating to all its vehicles, but these things take time. We will have to wait for them to get around to all of the vehicles. The whole process will still take a few years yet.

the question becomes what will Q90 actually be... Is it going to be a halo performance model, something along the lines of GT-R? or will it be a big saloon car like the 7-series...

As for the name change I think its much better this way, Q and QX followed by increasing numbers, much better than the hodge podge of numbers and letters before, at least when you see QX50, QX60 and QX70 you understand their pricing is linear. What did EX35, JX35 and FX50 tell us about anything??

Correct me if I am wrong, but there isn't really any other option for a name of an Infiniti vehicle except Q90. Unless they start having the last digit of their car names be something other than '0'.

A halo car would be great for Infiniti. Now that the company has really found a design language that is working well for them, it only makes sense to create a flagship sedan that really shows everything that the brand is. I hope that Infiniti gets around to building this sooner rather than later.

I don't know if I would go so far to say 'dislike' and I've never owned a EX/QX50 but there are a couple of small areas of improvement that COULD be made.

Most notably off the bat, the car needs to be refreshed exterior-wise. We've got a lot of heavy competition in this segment on the way and this car will definitely show its age along the lineup.

While certain additions I feel could be added for competition sake, even at the cost of nickel/diming or an increase in base price, simple options such as a panaromic roof seems prevalent now as well as a heated steering wheel availability for the AWD models. I also think that a Sport package (suspension, paddles, wheels, etc) would be a very useful addition to have available on the QX50 in an attempt to better market to those looking for more of a sportier and fun type of crossover.

I think any other additions or amenities (e.g., ventilated seats, entertainment screens, etc) should be saved for the bigger/higher luxury crossovers, but those type of additions would definitely help close the gap.

I love the heated seats with excellent lumbar support - that wasn't near as good in my previous Hyundai Santa Fe. I really like how the headlights move on sharp turns/corners. I am enjoying the push-button start (when I'm not using remote start). I like the fact that I've got all the things I wanted in an SUV that's smaller than the Santa Fe including far better lumbar supports / seats in front. Love the back up and all - around camera and memory seats! So much to like about this car!

Dislikes...trunk a bit small but just big enough for my needs. I don't really care that the rear seats are small - not really used anyway. Console is a bit small - I wish it were a bit bigger. I personally don't care for the idea that they put plug-ins in the console (USB, etc). I can't fit all my things in there that I need/use regularly.

Otherwise, I love this little zippy car! Fun to drive! I found it's pretty good on gas compared to my Santa Fe was. Lots of power!

Alrighty ~ nothing like a 9 year thread to jump into . . .

Likes and Dislikes -

Let's preface this by stating what Year QX50 we have since there are basically 3 versions

2008 to 2015 EX - EX35 - EX37 - QX50 with the Cramped Back Seat -

2016 to 2017 QX50 - the longer version with a Face Lift

Both of these have a V6 Traditionally Mounted , built in Japan, RWD, and AWD that is RWD Biased

No 2018s - Went straight to

2019 to Present QX50 - Redesign - Built in Mexico, FWD, 4 Cylinder

I have a 2016 Deluxe Touring ( every add on except for the High Tech Package - lane departure stuff )
And . . .
Image

Starting with the Dislikes:

Old Fashioned Roof Mounted Corkscrew 12" antenna ~ why not a Shark Fin ? - INFINITI kept the old 2008 technology on that

Silver painted front and rear bumper surfaces prone to chips and peeling paint - Poor adhesion to the plastic on that silver paint ~

Overall, the car is narrow ~ ( could be a like when in heavy traffic going high speeds where wide cars over spill into your lane )

Factory Bridgestone Turanza 19" Tires are too narrow, loud, and VERY expensive to replace ( over $325 each )

Roof Rails appear way to big and an over stated afterthought ( could be a like in that it makes the Hatch Wagon appear more mainstream SUVish )

Rear Hatch Tonneau Cover not standard - a pricey dealer mark up item ( negotiable these days as they're an old obsolete part in low demand )

Sunroof ~ whilst Standard on 2016 ~ is small when compared to modern day panoramic roofs

Seating Height - Because your tooling around in a Sports Car disguised as a Hatch Wagon ~ CUV ~ you want to get down lower in the seat, more grounded to the road, but the seat is mounted rather high up and doesn't seem to go low enough

And a general closing on dislikes ~ I'm driving a 6 year old QX50 with a bunch of 14 year old technology

On to the LIKES:

325 HP VQ V6 VHR Naturally Aspirated - through 2 air intakes ~ ( a dislike in that you need to buy 2 air filters come replacement time ) - Engine that's a Solid Performing Stalwart that propels the QX50 in a surprisingly swift fashion that is unexpected and appreciative when needing to accelerate out of a situation

The 7 Speed Sport & Economy Mode - Manually Slappable - Transmission with Down Shift Rev Matching that ALWAYS seems to be in the right gear at the right time and shifts so seamlessly and smoothly

The 19" wheels are far better looking than the 18" standard wheels, a much needed update - but still they can be wider and tad bit more aggressive looking

The Big Wide Diameter Chromed Exhaust Tips ~ ( but at some angels - you see the skinny diameter rusty pipes under the rear axel ahead of the Big Bad Chrome Tips - than can be a dislike )

Just the right amount of Chrome Trim to give it a Luxury Vibe without being too overstated

That Long Raked Hood ~ and Funky Adjustable Moving Headlights encased in the Plastic Covers ~ ( had a co-worker who thought the QX50 was Jaguar . . .lol )

And in closing on the Likes . . . The overall drivability and driving mechanics of the FMS ( front mid-ship ) platform - where the engine is behind the front wheels adding to th equally balanced weight distribution - with front multi link suspension and rear trailering arms - coupled with aforementioned Engine and Transmission ~ make my 2016 QX50 SO DANG FUN TO DRIVE !
