Style is not the most important part of a vehicle but it is a big part of selecting a vehicle and then living with it. When QX50 was first released as the EX it was styled as a beefed up G35, not much has changed since its debut, lets see how it holds up against the industries marquee luxury brands...

Exterior

QX50:

X3:

\

Evoque:

Q5:

GLK:

GLK is hands down the ugliest of the bunch, it is a minimally styled shoebox. Actually same goes for the X3 their nearly identical box shapes, chunky lamps and awkward grills make it difficult to decide which one is least appealing.

My biggest problem with Q5 is that it shows its Volkswagen lineage, its basic shape is the Tiguan with Audi bits stuck on. LEDs were impressive when they first debuted but now Audi has used them to such extremes they look average and run of the mill now. Also Q5 looks like it has a saggy rear end.

QX50 has attractive curves especially on the rear fenders. The QX50 brings the most flowing style very reminiscent of the G coupes with thier aggresive arches and powerful stances.

Evoque is the most engaging design, i cant decide which angle i like the Evoque from best, weather its the lips slightly parted grill the menacing stare down from the headlamps or the aggressive rear clip.

If you were shopping based on exterior only which one do you go for?

Audi, BMW and Infiniti look very similar. Almost exactly the same shape. Don't like the boxy shape of the GLK.

The Evoque has a unique look compared to the others, which I appreciate. I am just a bigger fan of the other brands, so I don't really want to consider the Range Rover.

Infiniti's QX50 has some great style, but I think that ll of these designs pale in comparison to the Evoque. It manages to look sporty as a crossover. It also has a sleek look without using too many round elements.

I didn't realize the Evoque costs that much more than the other cars listed here. Is it really that much more expensive?

I am a sucker for the bolder look of the Range Rover but I really don;t have that kind of money to spend. And plus there is nothing like Japanese reliability. I'll be saving money while some break the bank over maintenance and repairs.

Is the Q5 not too big for this comparison? Or am I wrong? And is the Evoque a bit too expensive?
MSRP from Base

QX50: $34,400
X3: $39,600
Evoque: $42,040
Q5: $37,300
GLK: $37,480

The Evoque isn't that much more expensive that the 3 germans but it is ~$8K more than a QX50. However the Evoque does bring a level of sophistication missing from the other 4. I will say though that QX50 does hold its own well against the Evoque, but the QX50 suffers because of its dated interior, I dont think it has seen an update since its inception in 2008. I fully expect a big time step up from a refreshed QX50, something along the lines of Q50 plus all the wizard gizmos Infiniti is packing their cars with now..

Yes those are two touch screens...

I am still on about how remarkably similar the QX50, Q5 and X3 look. There is not much design innovation there. Obviously that look is popular if three luxury brands basically are offering the same thing.

I like how the QX50 has a more sloped back end than the other two though. It makes it more sporty.
