Looks like the 2020 QX50 comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. :nerd:

Wonder if they will enable 2019 owners to update their infotainment software. ;)

Probably not. :crying:

I actually reached out to infiniti to ask this question. one of the reasons why I bought this car is that they said that they were going to do a software update to add it to the 2019s. I also have a note into my dealer who said they don't know yet

So I spoke to Infiniti and as of now they are not updating the software to add Android Auto or CarPlay - this really stinks.

I filed a compliant with Infiniti corporate and will keep on asking my dealer.

I spoke with Infiniti corporate and they said they do not believe that they will be updating the software in the car to add Android Auto or Apple Carplay. This really stinks and annoys me more than anything.

I know that I was spoiled by owning a tesla but this just seems like a really easy thing to do via a software update.

That’s odd. I called Infiniti and they said an update for ACP for the 2019 model will be released this December. It would make sense since the 2020 model is the exact same system. Nothing changed

I'm reading and watching.. this thread.. I desperately want an update as my bluetooth paring is finicky at times however I know it's unlikely to happen for us 2019 owners..

I sent an email from the Infiniti Owners site to their Consumer Affairs department. They responded:

"Please be advised at this time we have no information on if or when a Apple Car Play update will be available."

I hope your source had more current information.

I just purchased a 2019 QX50 a few weeks ago. I also own a 2018 Q50. On the Q50 forum many members claim there will never be a retrofit or update to Apple CarPlay or Android for models made prior to 2020.

Jeffpeds - that sounds about right to me. they gotta have a reason for all of us to go out and buy the NEW 2020 now.. :)

IMO, they already know what features will be added to the 2021, 2022, 2023 offerings but they hold them back so there is "a little something" new/better about the newer model.

Great points. Hopefully a retrofit will be available down the road. Not holding my breath though.

Yeah. I’m new here. Just picked up a 2019 and asked Infiniti Canada by email. Received this...

“ The expected released of 2020 QX50 will have Apple Carplay and Android Auto capability. Unfortunately, because this is an entirely new software and headunit that we are outfitting our vehicles with, it will only work on 2020 vehicles and newer.

We are unable to update 2019 vehicles, as they run on a completely different system. For alternate options with using INFINITI InTouch you are able to get assistance from our dedicated team at 1-855-444-7244.”

It seemed like a head unit issue so I sent them an email back asking if I could just pay for the new head unit and here’s what I got...

“ Thank you for your inquiry regarding purchasing a 2020 headunit for your 2019 QX50.

After further internal review, it has been verified that the systems are not the same and would not be compatible.”

I’ll hope for another solution, even Siri eyes free would be something. lol

This car is such a POS. I've been more disappointed in the Infiniti ownership experience then any other car that I've purchased in a very long time.

Between the incredibly crappy transmission, the schizophrenic engine and the worst infotainment system that I've ever experienced, the only positive thing I have to say about this car is it has really good paint. I've been actively telling people not to purchase it on the leasehackr forums even if they get a good deal.

I was hoping they would at least do the right thing by adding carplay to make up for the horrible infotainment system but clearly that isn't in the cards even though I was told by my sales guy that it would happen when I purchased the car

Interesting post.

The infotainment system is exactly what you bought. You should’ve known exactly what it did or did not do. Apple CarPlay is nice but certainly not necessary nor is it a deal breaker.

I researched and test drive cars before I buy them. I had and have no issues with the transmission nor the engine. Now I’m not going to buy a luxury SUV to race. I’m a little disappointed in the gas mileage so far. However it’s still best in class.

I cannot understand why anyone would buy a car/SUV and not test drive it and research it.

I hear you. I love the car. So far, no troubles with it and all the technology works exactly as I expected. For me, if there’s opportunity for improvements or feature adds, then all the better. It doesn’t take away from what it is though. It’s a great looking vehicle with a great looking interior and a good feature set.

I consciously bought the 2019 vs waiting for the 2020 because of the deep discount, knowing the biggest difference was CarPlay/AA. “Hey Siri” works fine with the car and gets me most of what I’d want from CarPlay anyways. It’s more of a curiosity for me than a need.

Dollar for dollar, I thought it was the best value for what you got. Now, If I could get some good bolt-on Nismo parts to push another 50 horses out of that motor and get a solid exhaust note, I’d spend the money there rather than on CarPlay upgrades. lol

Exactly! Could of easily waited for the 2020. However getting almost 10k off a 56k SUV and 2k more for my trade than CarMax offered sold me.

Would I like Apple CarPlay? Heck yes...but in the end no way was I going to get this deal on a 2020.

And yes, the interior is great looking with top notch materials. The exterior is markedly different than other SUV’s and looks sweet. Another 50 ponies would also be sweet but I have another vehicle for that.

I know this is an old post but if you’re still looking for CarPlay on Qx50 2019 and below this works perfect. I just got it installed. Google Unavi Qx50 lots of videos on YouTube too.
