I thought I'd start a new thread for those that have purchased or leased the new QX50. On the original Infiniti JX35 (now QX60) AutoGuide Forum we had a thread where members contributed their likes and dislikes including things that can be improved. We ended up with several pages of excellent thoughts. One of our members was invited to an Infiniti JX35 Focus Group to discuss issues and ideas. He took our list to the meeting and surprisingly, the next revision of the car had many of our ideas addressed. I recommend keeping to pros, cons and recommendations. I'll start with a few items my wife has pointed out.

Pros:
VC Turbo engine
Nimble ride
Luxurious interior
ProPilot
Tail gate foot operation

Cons:
Small glove box
Very limited color combination selections
Maple trim colors are grey. Would like to see the darker colors like on the QX60/80,etc.
Shift to reverse is forward rather than backwards
No AWD badge
No Auto park
InTouch downloading: Where are the apps?
No Apple Car Play

Recommendations:
More paint color choices
Interior color combinations should be similar to other Infiniti models

Agreed. Love the one in the QX60

I like the open-pore wood. My only issue is the color of the wood isn't consistent between the dash pieces and the door pieces on all vehicles.

Shift to reverse is forward rather than backwards
You'll get used to it.

No AWD badge
Parts department if you really care.

No Auto park
Whatchoo talkin bout Willis? If you use the auto-brake function (rear most button on center console by your right elbow), you have auto parking brake. And if you turn off the car and open the door, I'm pretty sure it puts itself into park - not sure which one you're asking for. But I do wish it worked like the NX where the parking brake always applies, even if you haven't pressed auto-brake.

Infiniti hates you. Get used to it. "Apps" is just a tease. At least if you live somewhere other than Tennessee. In Tenn, I think they feel "Apps" is exactly what it should be. Anywhere that's not a flyover state knows that apps should be more akin to what's on a phone. But apparently the software designers for our cars can't understand the language we speak on the coasts. We will see Carplay and Android Auto in future version. I've given up waiting for apps.

What he means by "autopark" is the car will parallel or "T" park by itself (it steers, you operate the throttle and brake). Latest thing. Takes forever, and if you really know how to actually drive you won't use it. I don't miss it.

I prefer the light interiors.

My only real dislike is the wheel/tire combo. I don't like the runflat tyres, they are overweight, and 20" wheels are TOO HEAVY. If they had gone with 17" or 18" with real repairable tyres they would have dropped about 200 lbs from the car, all unsprung. It would ride MUCH better. But I guess I'm out of touch with "modern styling". Style over function. ;)

Oh, and I turned OFF the silly "lane keep assist", or whatever Infiniti calls it. Don't need it, don't want to be fighting it, doesn't work in winter, and doesn't put the car where -I- want it to be in the lane.

DO love the DRCC (Toyota term - dynamic radar cruise control). Love that the latest version works to 0 forward speed, that it will sit and wait till the car ahead moves and then you just touch the throttle or the cruise button and it "resumes". Oh, and of course, that it stops the car -before- it hits the car ahead. ;) Had the older version on my 2012 Prius (would drop out at 40 km/hr), the new Prius has this version.

The fit and finish above all sold me on this car. Mine is the "sensory package".

Pros:
Love the interior
Bose sound system
ProPilot
Able to disable adaptive cruise and just have normal cruise control

Cons:
The venting of the sunroof is very small
Cup holders are small and way too close together
Can’t change the lower screen to default to audio rather than home/Navi screen

After 1 week with the vehicle, I'm finding a lot to like. Much is already stated above. On the negative side:

Cons:
Gas mileage is certainly not what they are promoting...very disappointing
Wish it didn't demand run flat tires, plus the 20 inch ones are a bit of a harder ride than I'd like
The storage bin between the front seats needs some dividers or shelves....something more than just a deep hole
Would be nice if the side mirrors had a powered fold function, rather than just manual. Maybe even be set to fold automatically when you park the car.
I suppose Apple and Android car play (although the system works pretty well without that)
Not crazy about the "Ultrasuede" between the front seats
Finger prints really jump out at you on the lower display
The piano black surface between the front seats also show any little bit of dust or dirt

And by the way, I just helped a friend buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature model. It listed about $20K under my QX50 and is a bit smaller vehicle, but otherwise it has pretty much all the same features and a few more (like addressing all the stuff in my cons list.) OK, it doesn't drive quite as well, but hey, its $20K less, looks nice outside, is very plush inside, gets better mileage and gets great reviews. Certainly Acura, Toyota and Honda need to pay attention, but Infiniti, too.
